Ewa Ọlà (Beauty of Nobility) is a tribute to the strength and quiet confidence found in many African women. She sits calmly, but there’s power in her presence, a kind of beauty that isn’t just about looks, but about everything she’s been through and overcome.
The Ankara fabric she wears isn’t just clothing, it carries meaning. It represents her culture, her story, and the pride she has in where she comes from. Her expression is steady, almost saying, “I’ve seen life, and I’m still standing.”
This painting honors a beauty that comes from within dignity, resilience, and the deep sense of self that makes her truly noble.
The Series “Obinrin(Women)”: Obinrin, the Yoruba word for woman, symbolizes more than gender; it represents the life-giver, the nurturer, the one who carries the weight of continuity and care. In this series, I aim to honor the resilient spirit, immense strength, and deep responsibilities that women bear in fulfilling their sacred and essential roles. Through childbirth and beyond, Obinrin stands as a testament to the enduring power and grace of womanhood.
